Dr. Guillermo Couto

Dr. Guillermo Couto is a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine, with board certification in both Small Animal Internal Medicine and Oncology. With nearly 50 years of experience, Dr. Couto is internationally recognized for his work in clinical and comparative hematology, oncology, and clinical pathology.

He is the coauthor of the widely used Small Animal Internal Medicine textbook, now in its sixth edition, and has published over 175 peer-reviewed scientific articles and more than 220 book chapters. His clinical focus includes providing veterinary oncology consult services and personalized pet cancer consults for both canine and feline patients.

A leading expert in Greyhound medicine, sighthound medicine, and sighthound health, Dr. Couto has authored more than 40 peer-reviewed publications specific to Greyhounds, Galgos, and other sighthounds. His expertise in hematology also makes him a sought-after consultant for blood diseases in dogs and cats, particularly in complex or breed-specific cases.
